Matt James has announced his breakup with girlfriend Rachael Kirkconnell in an Instagram post that reportedly left her and her family shocked and embarrassed.
The couple, who began dating after meeting on The Bachelor in 2020, have been in an on-and-off relationship since then.
In his post on Thursday, James shared a picture of the moment he met Rachael on the show, along with a heartfelt caption that read, "Father God, give Rachael and I strength to mend our broken hearts. Give us peace about this decision to end our relationship that transcends worldly understanding."
Moreover, he also asked for love and kindness toward their friends and family, adding a broken-heart emoji.
According to a source quoted by The U.S. Sun, Rachael was "blindsided" by the public announcement, stating, "She didn’t know he was going to do that and definitely wouldn’t have approved of it if she did."
Additionally, the insider added that Rachael was left feeling "humiliated" by the way the news was shared.
As per Daily Mail’s claims, fans were equally confused, as James had posted affectionate comments and videos about Rachael just hours before announcing the split.
The videos included clips from their recent trip to London, where the pair were seen trying pizza together as one fan questioned, "How do you eat pizza together and then announce a breakup 12 hours later?"
While sources claim Rachael was the one to "pull the plug" on the relationship, they also suggested James’ social media activity was "for engagement and attention,” as per the outlet.
It is worth mentioning that the couple first split in 2021 after racially insensitive images of Rachael attending a plantation-themed party in 2018 resurfaced online, as per the publication.
