Thousands of people had been ordered to evacuate in Southern California on Wednesday as several deadly wildfires burned across Los Angeles County, burning thousands of acres and destroying homes.
The National Weather Service issued a highly damaging wind warning Tuesday evening into Wednesday afternoon, with gusts of 50-80 mph and isolated winds of 80-100 mph in the mountains and foothills. Forecasters said downed trees and power outages are expected.
According to Cal Fire, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, four wildfires are currently burning in Los Angeles County: the Palisades Fire, at nearly 3,000 acres; the Eaton Fire, at over 2,000 acres; the Hurst Fire, about 500 acres; and the Woodley Fire, at 75 acres. Officials also said the Tyler Fire was blazing in nearby Riverside County, covering 15 acres. As of Wednesday morning, none of the fires had been contained.
